Hide AdDr Yvette Oade, Chief Medical Officer at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said today: “We can confirm that, sadly, a patient who was in our care, who had tested positive for COVID-19, has died.
"The patient was in her 80s and had underlying health conditions.
"Her family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.
"We would ask the media to respect the privacy of the family, and the interests of staff at the hospital, to avoid any disruption to operational services.”
A total of 5,683 people in the UK have tested positive for COVID-19, as of 9am on Sunday, and 281 coronavirus patients have died.
