Bremner’s Leeds United were almost touched by magic towards the end the 1986-87 season but defeat in the FA Cup semi-finals and a shattering play-off final ruined a romantic tale. Neither loss was anything less than defeat pulled from the jaws of victory. Bremner was the first coach on a decade to get United to the last four of the FA Cup before being edged out in a five goal thriller against Coventry City. And a generation of fans will reminisce how the Whites came within seven minutes of being promoted back to the top flight.
