300 years of military history marked by the Light Dragoons
The Light Dragoons staged a spectacular parade at the North Yorkshire base to mark their 300th anniversary.
Serving soldiers and veterans celebrated the tercentenary of the Regiment whose history includes the Battle of Waterloo and the Charge of the Light Brigade. As well as troops marching, the parade featured horses, tanks and armoured vehicles, showcasing the changing technology used by this cavalry regiment which started life in 1715.

Hide AdDuring the event at Gaza Barracks, a message was read from His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan, the Colonel-in-Chief of The Light Dragoons – a role once held by Diana, Princess of Wales.
Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel James Senior said: “The Light Dragoons tercentenary weekend is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our Regiment’s 300th birthday. To mark this very special occasion the Regiment has invited retired officers and soldiers from the Regimental Association.”
