Often dubbed 'Monster Mansion' Wakefield prison has housed rapist, murderers and serial killers. These are some of the most notorious inmates of Wakefield prison over the decades.
1. Levi Bellfield
Milly Dowler's killer Levi Bellfield was convicted of murdering Marsha McDonnell and Amlie Delagrange and the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy in 2008. He was later moved to HMP Frankland.
2. Robert Black
In 1994, Robert Black was convicted of the murder of four young girls. He was taken to Wakefield prison to begin his sentence in the segregation unit. He died from a heart attack in HMP Maghaberry on 12 January 2016.
3. Mark Bridger
Mark Bridger was sentenced to life in prison for the abduction and murder of April Jones, 5, on October 1, 2012. In 2013, a fellow inmate at Wakefield prison attacked Bridger.
4. Charles Bronson
Charles Bronson is one of the highest-profile criminals in Britain. He is currently serving a life term at HMP Frankland in County Durham for robbery and kidnap, but was a former inmate at Wakefield prison.
5. Klaus Fuchs
Klaus Fuchs was a German theoretical physicist and atomic spy, who was convicted in 1950 of supplying information to the Soviet Union during the Second World War. He spent nine years and four months in Wakefield prison.
6. Ian Huntley
Ian Huntley was convicted of the murder of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2003 and sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment. He was held at Wakefield prison until January 2008 when he was moved to HMP Frankland.
