Here, the legendary ex Leeds boss describes the men who were mainstays of his side.
1. John McClelland (16 + 2 as sub)
Lots and lots and lots of experience. Good character, took it upon himself to, where necessary, help others learn. Good decision maker, quicker than people gave him credit for. Good on the ball.
2. John Lukic (42 starts)
Good temperament, good under pressure, good shot stopper, distribution good. What more do you want? Height as well, took a cross. He gave you everything, especially the temperament which is very, very important in that position.
3. Tony Dorigo (38)
Great pace, good temperament. I wanted my full-backs to almost play like they do now, when we got the ball, well wide, high up the pitch. Good left foot, could beat a player. Defended under pressure, didn't make silly decisions.
4. David Batty(40)
Everyone had him down for his fierceness but he was also a good interceptor, a good reader. A good passer, on the ball didn't get the credit he deserved. Laid back. Nothing got him too excited apart from injustice on the pitch.
5. Chris Fairclough (30 + 15)
Quick, I wanted pace. He played in a good school at Forest, had good teachers. Good in the air, very good at winning the ball. Used it well but didn't overstretch, didn't take chances. Reliable. Could and would play with injury.
6. Chris Whyte (41)
Very, very good on the ball as well as defensively being spot on. Good temperament. Chris could have gone to sleep during a game, he was so relaxed. Everything looked easy. He could beat people, pass.
