The next two transfer windows could be key for Leeds United if they are to not only secure their position as a Premier League side but also improve beyond what has already been achieved.
To do that they will need to bring in some quality reinforcements and the attacking areas could be the most prominent area that they need to address. PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo, who has been starring for the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar, was thought to be a target for Elland Road chiefs but his stock has skyrocketed in recent weeks and his future looks likely to be either with Manchester United or Real Madrid.
If Leeds do miss out on the Dutchman then they might look at bringing in some top quality strikers and could do so on free transfers with many excellent individuals set to become available on free transfers in January. It’s important to note that Leeds could only secure players on pre-contract deals, meaning they wouldn’t actually move to Elland Road until summer 2023, and that this can only be done on players who do not currently play in the Premier League or EFL.
With that in mind, here are nine top quality strikers that Leeds United could look to sign for free in the January transfer window by agreeing pre-contract deals:
1. Marcus Thuram
If the French forward does decide to leave Borussia Mönchengladbach at the end of his current deal then he will likely be one of the most sought after free agents in world football but there’s not reason Leeds shouldn’t throw their hat in the ring anyway.
2. Youssoufa Moukoko
Moukoko appears to be attracting interest from clubs across Europe with Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea all linked in recent weeks but his future still looks to be undecided and it could be an interesting race to sign him
3. Moussa Dembele
The former Celtic star might be ready for a new challenge once his time with Lyon comes to an end and the Premier League could be the perfect fit for him with Elland Road just one of several destinations he could end up being wanted at.
4. Andrea Belotti
Roma have the option to extend the Italian international’s current deal if they choose but if not then the former Torino favourite could be a prime target for clubs across Europe.
5. Alexis Sanchez
Although the former Arsenal and Man Utd man’s best days seem behind him he’s still only 33 and could be a real asset with his experience in the Premier League, Champions League and international stage.
6. Alfredo Morelos
The Colombian was once valued at £20m by Rangers but his future is uncertain at Ibrox. However, a new head coach could mean a new lease of life for Morelos or he could be snapped up by a Premier League side if they can’t agree a deal.
